LOSITO INTERNATIONAL FILMS PRESENTS “THE CUT”
25 October All day

Losito International films presents “The cut”, a film by Max Losito, with Silvia Alessi and Roberto Tomelleri, executive producers: Katia Losito and Elena Quiri, editing by Paolo Percopo, director of photography: Max Losito, sound designer and mix engineer: Bittoo Pirazzi, color correction: Paolo Percopo, narrated by Miriam Gualteroni
Hair has power.
The power of the endowment, that brings blessings when offered to the temple.
The power of cleaning the seas from oil and nourishing new plants.
The power to defy space and time, to make us feel strong and beautiful.
The power to stand against dictatorships.
The power to challenge bans, when salons are closed and everyday gestures become clandestine.
Hair has the power to tell stories of courage.
Silvia Alessi, photographer and hairdresser, followed these threads around the world without
knowing where they would lead her. She intertwined her visions with real encounters: using Butoh
dance to tell the story of metamorphoses, silently entering women’s homes.
For five years, director Max Losito has been following this journey with his camera, and Paolo
Percopo’s editing gave rhythm and substance.
The Cut is the story of how a fragile, everyday detail can open up entire universes. Because yes:
hair has power.

Silvia Alessi

Silvia Alessi is a visual artist and photographer from Bergamo, where she runs a beauty salon. For over 15 years, she has explored the world through photography, capturing stories of people in remote places. With each shot, Silvia tells hidden stories, using photography to connect cultures and experiences. She believes it should go beyond simply capturing faces, addressing social issues. Her first project, “Skin Project,” realized in India in 2017, combined images of people with albinism and women who are survivors of acid attacks, exploring themes of marginalization and beauty. Her approach is based on meaningful encounters that enrich both her and the audience. Her latest project, “The Cut” (2021 – ongoing), explores the symbolic power of hair as rebellion and a gift for a greater good. This work has taken her to various countries, combining reportage of real stories and pure imagination, inviting reflection on the significance of hair in the world.
Max Losito

Max Losito (Italy, 1972) began his career as an assistant in his father's photography studio at a young age, specializing in still life photography and quickly becoming one of the youngest table top directors. In 2003, he founded Losito International Films, introducing to Italy a new advertising production model, with an in-house crew and equipment both dedicated to tabletop photography. He subsequently opened Magia Entertainment in New York, exploring new forms of visual communication, including stereoscopy. In approximately 15 years, he created over 200 commercials and demos (food, beauty, objects, liquids), standing out for his visionary style. Meanwhile, he directed the short film The Flowers of Silence, presented at Cannes and sold to SBS Television, and the documentary My Life in a Click on photographer Gianni Berengo Gardin, selected at the Auckland International Film Festival.
